More sadness as a long time friend and Colleige JOE MOOSHIL has passed away at the age of 85. I’ve known Joe since the 1970’s when I got to talk to him in different Press Boxes. In 1976 he hired me to do some game day work for the Associate…
d Press, That’s about the same time I began working for AP Broadcasting as well, and a year before I started at Sportsphone. It’s true Joe could have a loud and booming voice and could call you different names. But I learned quickly that when he called you stuff like a “Silly C*** S*****” it was a term of endearment. I have so many neat stories about Moosh, such as his reaction when I played the Lee Elia tirade for him April 29,1983, and when he had to interview ME for quotes in New Orleans Jan 23,1986 during Super Bowl XX week. It was about the so called story that Jim McMahon had called the Women of New Orleans ‘sluts’ on an interview with Fred Winston and myself on WLS(which NEVER happened). I starting laughing, and he-with a serious look on his face-asked me “what’s so funny you “Silly C*** S*****”. I laughed harder, and said “This has to be killing you, that you have to gets quotes from ME!” He broke out into laughter, then got serious again and said “Just answer the damned questions!”
When I lost my WLS gig in late Dec 1989, Joe called me and just wanted to know if I was OK. That’s the type of guy Joe Mooshil was.
Oh, yes, while I am a Radio ‘person’, I learned a ton about the ways of writing from Moosh that has translated into my part of the business today.THANKS FOR EVERYTHING JOE! A ton of your friends will always be grateful for knowing you!!
